On Tuesday night, for the second straight game, Michigan suffered an upset loss at home, as Eastern Michigan held off the Wolverines, 45-42. Three days earlier, N.J.I.T., the lone Division I independent team, knocked Michigan from the top 25 rankings with a 72-70 victory.

Junior point guard Spike Albrecht scored no points and committed four turnovers in 26 minutes against Eastern Michigan. In the loss to N.J.I.T., he was 3-of-7 from the field for seven points before fouling out. On Thursday, Albrecht told reporters he has been dealing with a season-long injury. When asked to elaborate on what’s exactly ailing him, he responded with, “a lower body injury.”

“It’s something that I’ve been dealing with all year,” Albrecht told reporters, via Mark Snyder of the Detroit Free Press. “I just continue to get treatment with John (DoRosario, the team trainer), but we’re at the part of the season where everyone’s banged up with nicks and bruises. Just trying to stay healthy and do everything I can to be my best out there.”

“We did a pretty good job of taking care of it in the off-season -- I got a lot of treatment from John Do, and we had the best doctors in the world looking at me. If I was to do anything, it would be immediately after the season, given how long the recovery process is.”

Albrecht elected to go play through the pain instead of undergoing offseason surgery in order to be ready for the start of the season, one in which he serves as one of three juniors along with Caris LeVert and Max Bielfeldt. There are no seniors on the Michigan roster.

News of the injury Albrecht has been suffering is compounded with starting point guard Derrick Walton Jr. dealing with a sprained toe, sustained in the loss to Villanova in the Legends Classic in Brooklyn several weeks ago.

Albrecht is averaging 5.6 points, 3.9 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game in extended minutes this season.

Michigan travels to play No. 3 Arizona on Saturday evening, followed the next week by a game against SMU.
