After starting the first five games of the season Rutgers junior guard Bishop Daniels suffered a sprained ankle in the first half of the team’s win over Vanderbilt on November 28 and he hasn’t played since. According to Jerry Carino of Gannett New Jersey the 6-foot-3 guard performed well in his first full practice since suffering the injury on Thursday, and the expectation is that Daniels will be able to play Sunday when the Scarlet Knights take on Manhattan.

Daniels is averaging 5.6 points in 20 minutes of action per game, and his return comes at a good time for a team that doesn’t have much perimeter depth. Yet even with that being the case, the fact that Daniels has missed so much time makes it tough for head coach Eddie Jordan to throw the junior into the “deep end” Sunday afternoon.

“Bishop’s missed so much time that it’s something we have to talk about as a coaching staff,” Jordan said. “Do we go back to him as a starter? After warm-ups, do we keep him warm and put him right in?”

Senior Myles Mack, who leads the team in scoring and assists, is averaging nearly 36 minutes per game and freshman Mike Williams has played more than 32 minutes per game in the five contests since Daniels’ ankle injury. And in the Scarlet Knights’ 60-54 win over New Hampshire on Tuesday, freshman walk-on Khalil Batie scored six points in seven minutes of action.

Daniels’ return gives Rutgers another scholarship guard to call upon, and given Manhattan’s use of pressure defense having another ball-handler is a positive for Jordan and his coaching staff.
