After redshirting in 2013-14, VCU redshirt freshman forward Antravious Simmons found cracking Shaka Smart’s rotation difficult in 2014-15. With a host of players, including starter Mo Alie-Cox, seeing more minutes in the front court there wasn’t much time available to Simmons.

The Miami native played in just three games this season, and on Tuesday the school announced that Simmons has decided to transfer at the end of the current semester.

“We appreciate the contributions that Antravious has made to our program for nearly the past two years,” Smart said in a statement released by the school. “We wish him nothing but the best as he moves to the next stage of his career.”

The 6-foot-9 Simmons scored two points and grabbed two rebounds in a win over Maryland-Eastern Shore on November 20.

Simmons’ departure doesn’t change the VCU front court rotation, with Alie-Cox and freshmen Terry Larrier and Justin Tillman leading the way in minutes per game. VCU also has senior forward Jarred Guest to call on, with the 6-foot-8 senior playing just over eight minutes per contest.
