Minnesota will be down to 10 scholarship players as freshman big man Josh Martin is the latest Golden Gopher to leave the team. The 6-foot-8 native of Washington intends to transfer at the end of the semester, per a release from the school, and Martin averaged 1.3 points and 1 rebound per game.
Martin was only averaging 5.4 minutes per game. With sophomore guard Daquan McNeil facing an indefinite suspension following his recent charge of domestic assault, Minnesota is very limited and only has 10 scholarship players to work with.
Regarded as a three-star prospect coming out of high school, Martin also took official visits to Florida State and Pitt during his initial recruiting process. Although he wasn’t playing much right now, the Golden Gophers will be lacking big men once conference season comes around and that could hurt them if they get in foul trouble or lose anyone to injury.
