Ohio State has a quartet of four-star commits set to join the program next fall. Before Thad Matta even added a recruit in 2016 or 2017, he landed a pledge from a 2018 prospect.

On Monday afternoon, Dane Goodwin, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard Upper Arlington High (Ohio), verbally committed to the Buckeyes. Ohio State had reportedly offered the freshman a scholarship two months ago.

“Honored to accept an offer from Coach Matta and OSU staff, I have committed to play basketball at THE Ohio State University,” he tweeted.

Goodwin is the son of former Dayton standout Damon Goodwin, who is currently the head coach of Capital University, a Division III program in Columbus, Ohio.

While it remains to be seen if this commitment lasts all four years, Matta has been recruiting far in advance as of late. In October, he reporters that LeBron James Jr. “will be” on his radar. The son of the four-time NBA MVP won’t be a high school until 2021.
