No team wants to leave an in-season tournament without a victory, and Saturday night both La Salle and Vanderbilt were working to avoid an 0-2 weekend in Brooklyn. Kevin Stallings’ young Commodores (5-1) took a ten-point lead into the half thanks to an 11-5 run to conclude the first 20 minutes, and from there took control in beating the Explorers 68-55 to win the consolation game of the Barclays Classic.

La Salle’s (4-2) Jerrell Wright led all scorers with 19 points, but he was just one of two players to score in double figures for Dr. John Giannini’s team. Damian Jones led the way for Vanderbilt, scoring 16 points while also grabbing seven rebounds with three other Commodores scoring in double figures.

Vanderbilt limited La Salle to 43.1% shooting on the night, with the Explorers shooting 30.8% in the first half.
