With five high school seniors and one junior college sophomore putting their pledges in writing during the early signing period, Washington head coach Lorenzo Romar and his staff has successfully put together a class that’s rated among the best in the country by many of the major scouting services. With the 2015 recruiting class taken care of the next step for Washington is to focus on their 2016 targets, and Saturday evening the Huskies received their first verbal pledge in that class.

Four-star 6-foot-3 combo guard JaQuori McLaughlin, a native of Gig Harbor, Washington who grew up watching Romar’s program, announced his decision to become a Husky according to Scout.com. And in discussing his decision with Scout’s Josh Gershon, McLaughlin cited his relationship with Romar as one of the reasons why he decided to commit to Washington.

“The first reason is coach Romar; the relationship I built with him in recruiting is great,” McLaughlin said. “We talk every day and that made me very comfortable with him and the coaching staff.”

With Andrew Andrews being a junior and Nigel Williams-Goss and Darin Johnson being sophomores, Washington won’t lack for experience when their 2015 perimeter recruits arrive on campus. And given the eligibility remaining for their current players, landing a talented guard in the 2016 class helps moving forward.

As a sophomore at Peninsula HS, McLaughlin averaged 19.6 points, 3.3 assists and 4.1 steals per game.
