Under head coach Tim Cluess the Iona basketball program has been successful when it comes to incorporating transfers into their system. Wednesday it was reported that the MAAC program has added another such player to the program, with former Notre Dame/Missouri guard Cameron Biedscheid deciding to join the program.
Biedscheid hasn’t played a minute of college basketball since his freshman year at Notre Dame in 2012-13, when he averaged 6.2 points and 1.4 rebounds in 17.4 minutes of action per game. The original plan for Biedscheid last season was to redshirt at Notre Dame, but ultimately he would change his mind at the end of the Fall 2013 semester and transfer to Missouri.
Biedscheid, who would have been eligible to play at Missouri in mid-December, left the program in late September in order to address what Missouri head coach Kim Anderson referred to as “personal matters.” According to the CBSSports.com report on Biedscheid’s transfer to Iona, the school is expected to file an appeal that would make him eligible at the end of the current semester.
Adding Biedscheid to the fold would give Iona additional depth on the wing, where they are currently led by juniors A.J. English (25.0 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 4.5 apg) and Isaiah Williams (14.5, 6.2, 3.0). In addition to those two leaders, Kelvin Amayo and Jeylani Dublin have made two starts apiece for the 3-1 Gaels.
