Dwayne Benjamin entered Monday night’s tilt with Michigan as one of Oregon’s most surprising players.

He’s averaging 7.5 points and 9.3 boards, playing with the kind of energy up front that the Ducks desperately need, but he won’t be on the floor on Tuesday night. Benjamin injured his left ankle in Monday’s loss to Michigan -- he was nearly in tears on the bench after the injury -- and, according to a report from ESPN.com, Benjamin will miss tonight’s game against VCU.

That is a massive blow for the Ducks, and it’s more than just missing Benjamin.

What VCU does is wear down their opponents. Oregon’s bench is already desperately thin. Three players were kicked off the team over the summer after they were accused of sexual assault. JaQuan Lyle and Ray Kasongo were not admitted into the school. Michael Chandler’s injured. They don’t have enough bodies even when Benjamin is healthy.

Hopefully his ankle injury is not serious.
