Minnesota has suspended sophomore guard Daquein McNeil from all team activities after the reserve was arrested on a charge of domestic assault. McNeil was booked on probable cause on Monday afternoon, according to Hennepin County jail records acquired by the AP. According to the story, he’s still being held without bail as of Tuesday morning.

Minnesota’s athletic department announced the decision in a statement from athletic director Norwood Teague. Teague said the university “will not tolerate any form of domestic assault from its staff or student-athletes.”

The school is still getting information on the arrest.

McNeil is averaging 3.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in 18.8 minutes a night for Minnesota this season. A 6-foot-3 native of Baltimore, McNeil is usually the second guard off the bench for the Golden Gophers and he was off to a slow start on the offensive end this season as he’s only shooting 26 percent from the field and 14 percent from three-point range.
