Texas A&M receives more good news as freshman big man is cleared

Texas A&M has received plenty of good news over the last few days. For one, the Aggies announced late this week that Houston transfer Danuel House would be eligible to play beginning on Sunday.

Now, according to a release from the school, head coach Billy Kennedy will also add some interior depth as freshman big man Tonny Trocha-Morelos has been cleared to play. Trocha-Morelos will be able to join House on Sunday on the floor for the Aggies. The news of Trocha-Morelos being cleared to play was first reported by Jon Rothstein of CBSSports.com.

The 6-foot-10 freshman has been a known commodity in American basketball circles since a breakout performance in 2012 at events like the U18 FIBA Americas and adidas Nations. The native of Colombia signed with the Aggies in the fall of 2012, but eligibility issues have kept him on the sidelines as many wondered when he would make his collegiate debut.

If  Trocha-Morelos can give Texas A&M any sort of production, it would be a big boost for a team that is struggling to score points early in the 2014-15 season. Kourtney Roberson, Antwan Space and Trocha-Morelos should also give the Aggies more depth during SEC play when they have to face deep teams like Kentucky.

It remains to be seen how Trocha-Morelos has looked after his breakout 2012, but he’s shown flashes of tremendous talent in the past and could be a nice addition.
