Report: Colleagues don’t expect Brandon Miller to return to coaching

The biggest question surrounding the Butler basketball team this season has very little to do with what is actually happening on the court and much more to do with who is stalking the sidelines.

On Oct. 2nd of this year, just one day before college basketball practices were set to begin, Bulldog head coach Brandon Miller announced that he would be taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team. It is a medical issue, according to the release that the Bulldogs sent out, but that’s as detailed as the program would get about his status.

The question now is when, if ever, will he return, and the Indy Star has a couple of updates for us.

For starters, due to something called the Family and Medical Leave Act, Miller has 12 weeks where he can take time away from work without losing his job. That would take us to the end of December, but if he hasn’t returned by then, his legal right to keep his job will expire.

What’s more interesting, however, is that, according to the Star, none of Miller’s coaching colleagues expect him to return to the position. Miller spent time as an assistant at Ohio State and Illinois, but when he was in Columbus, he took a year off from coaching as well.

Butler athletic director Barry Collier would only say that he is “hopeful” Miller will return.
