Over the weekend, news broke that Demetrius Treadwell, an all-conference forward for the Akron Zips, had been suspended from the team indefinitely.

On Monday, we found out why.

According to a report from the Akron Beacon Journal, Treadwell has been accused of assaulting a player on the women’s basketball team, Sina King.

The details in the story are scarce. There’s nothing in there about the relationship between the two players, and the police report that the paper obtained does not provide any insight into what precipitated the assault or document what, exactly, the injuries King sustained are.

There is this, however:

According to the police report, Treadwell assaulted King during an altercation at her home on Spicer Street about 4 a.m. Saturday. The assault left King, 23, with “apparent minor” injuries.

Police took photographs of the injuries as well as a photo of a text message connected to the altercation, officers noted in their report.

The paper also said that head coach Keith Dambrot “sounded prepared to go on without his senior forward”.

Treadwell, who left the team for a brief period of time last season, has not been charged with a crime.
