During the first half of No. 7 Florida’s 68-45 season-opening win over William & Mary Friday night, redshirt junior forward Dorian Finney-Smith fell hard onto the court and injured his left (non-shooting) wrist. Originally determined to be a sprained left wrist, Finney-Smith reentered the game later in the half with his hand and wrist taped up.

However the injury is a bit more severe than originally reported, with the Associated Press reporting Saturday evening that Finney-Smith suffered a hairline fracture in his left hand.

According to the report Finney-Smith’s status for Florida’s next game, Monday night against Miami, is uncertain. Finney-Smith played 22 minutes against William & Mary, accounting for 15 points and five rebounds during his time on the floor.

The concern for Florida is that if Finney-Smith has to miss any time, they’ll be down another front court player. Monday’s game is the last one sophomore forward Chris Walker will have to sit out as a result of his suspension, and the Gators currently have two front court players sitting out per NCAA transfer rules. Alex Murphy will be available in December, and John Egbunu has to sit out the entire 2014-15 season.

Of the remaining options Jon Horford has plenty of experience at the Division I level thanks to his time at Michigan, and both Jacob Kurtz and Devon Robinson saw time Friday night as well.
