Fred Richardson already knew that he was going to be sitting out for the first nine games of the 2014-15 season.
The Colorado State forward got himself into some trouble with the NCAA during his freshman season at Oregon in 2012-13. Along with Dominic Artis and Ben Carter, Richardson was caught selling shoes that he had been given by the university for profit. He was handed down a nine game suspensions, just like Artis and Carter, but since he spent last season at a Junior College -- which falls outside the governance of the NCAA -- his penalty will be served this year.
But that may only be the start of Richardson’s trouble, as he was also arrested in early September, according to The Coloradoan, and charged with two misdemeanors after being arrested for suspicion of DUI.
“The deal is, he violated team rules and when it gets through the court system, we’ll figure out the punishment,” Eustachy told the paper. “The nine games is from the shoe deal.”
The good news for the Rams, as our Raphielle Johnson artfully laid out here, is that Colorado State has plenty of quality pieces this season. Losing Richardson for an extended period should only be a blip on the radar for Eustachy’s club.
