Kentucky whipped up on Georgetown -- the NAIA school in Kentucky, not the Big East school in DC -- 121-52 on Sunday, jumping out to a 40-6 lead and never looking back:
It was impressive enough that Georgetown head coach set off a firestorm on twitter by saying that Kentucky was better than some NBA teams.
“I just told the guys in the locker room, they could have beaten some NBA teams tonight,” Briggs said. “No doubt in my mind.”
There may be a number of future NBA Draft picks on that Kentucky roster, but in a moment of clarity, I think Briggs would tell you that he was exaggerating just a bit. No college team is going to ever beat an NBA team, especially not during the one-and-done era of college hoops. There are all-americans that can’t get drafted. Andrew Wiggins, the top pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, is average 9.2 points. Jabari Parker, the No. 2 pick, is averaging 11.6 points. They weren’t even on the same team in college.
It’s a stupid discussion to have, and one that only merits a post here because of something John Calipari said this morning.
“I hear Coach Briggs got excited after the game last night,” Cal tweeted. “Let me be clear: If we played ANY NBA team, we would get buried. ANY.”
So just don’t even bother bringing it up, ok?
