Wisconsin redshirt senior forward Duje Dukan missed the entire 2012-13 season, with the decision being made at the time to redshirt in order to fully recover from a case of mononucleosis. However it was ruled that due to the fact that the illness wasn’t considered to be debilitating Dukan did not qualify for a medical redshirt. That situation resulted in his needing to file an appeal with the NCAA to be given a fourth year of competition, and on Wednesday the Wisconsin basketball program announced that Dukan has regained that year.

However there is a catch: as part of the ruling Dukan has to sit out the first four “competitions” of the season, with Wisconsin’s private scrimmage this past weekend and Wednesday night’s exhibition against Wisconsin-Parkside being two of those acceptable games.

The reason why Dukan has to sit out is that, according to the release, the NCAA ruled that he has to sit out two games for each of the two exhibition/scrimmages that he played in during the 2012-13 season. Dukan will be eligible to play against Green Bay on November 19.

Dukan averaged 2.8 points and 1.5 rebounds in just over eight minutes of action per contest, serving as one of Wisconsin’s front court reserves with sophomore Nigel Hayes being the first interior player off the bench. Dukan’s most productive game last season came in their opener against St. John’s, as he accounted for 18 points and five rebounds in the Badgers’ 86-75 victory.
