The Bloomington Police Department released the crash report on the accident over the weekend that left Devin Davis hospitalized and Emmitt Holt in trouble with the law.
According to the report, which was obtained by the Indy Star, the primary cause for the collision was ‘pedestrian action’. No blame being assigned to Holt, who was driving the 2012 Jeep Liberty that hit Davis.
Here’s what the police say happened: Holt was driving the SUV, which belonged to one of the three female passengers, early Saturday. He dropped Davis off in the parking lot of Indiana’s Memorial Stadium, and after leaving the lot, Davis ran into the street, where he was hit by Holt’s car. The police found him unconscious in the road, but he has since regained all use of his extremities and is speaking normally.
One of the three passengers has been identified as 20-year old Hallie Johanningsmeier. She defended Holt in the report.
“He was just trying to be dumb. I have no idea what was going through his head,” Johanningsmeier is quoted as saying, according to Indiana’s Rivals site. “It wasn’t just any random person. It was one of his teammates. He was scared. He didn’t know what to do. I want people to understand it was an accident.”
Holt has been cited with illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor and operating a vehicle with a BAC above 0.02. Holt, who is 18, blew a 0.025. The legal limit for people of age in Indiana is 0.08.
