Boise State suspends two guards, including second-leading returning scorer

Derrick Marks

In Anthony Drmic and Derrick Marks, Boise State returns one of the most productive tandems in the Mountain West. However, head coach Leon Rice will be without Marks for a few games, as it was reported by Dave Southorn of the Idaho Statesman Saturday afternoon that both he and reserve guard Dezmyn Trent have been suspended for one regular season game apiece.

The two players will miss both of Boise State’s exhibition games, beginning with Saturday night’s against La Verne, but they won’t sit out the same regular season game. Since they play the same position, one will miss Boise State’s regular season opener against San Diego with the other sitting out the team’s game against Loyola Marymount the following night.

Marks started 33 of the 34 games he played in last season, averaging 14.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Trent played in 20 games as a freshman, averaging 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in 5.8 minutes of action per game.
