Last spring was a difficult time for Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery. As a coach, he was dealing with the Hawkeyes fighting for an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament while as a father, he had to deal with his 13-year-old son Patrick battling thyroid cancer.

In a good read at NCAA.com from Mike Lopresti, we learn how McCaffery received support from other Big Ten coaches and how he got through that difficult time dealing with his son. Patrick is thankfully doing better and in recovery from his treatments. He’s attending Iowa practices again and father and son are looking forward to a new season.
