In Kansas’ final game of the 2013-14 season, a 60-57 loss to Stanford in the NCAA tournament Round of 32, guard Conner Frankamp emerged as a bright spot in what was a rough offensive performance. As a team the Jayhawks shot 32.8%, but thanks in part to Frankamp (12 points on 4-for-8 shooting) they were able to hang around and even had a chance to send the game into overtime.

Sign of things to come for Frankamp, who averaged just 8.3 minutes per game as a freshman? Unfortunately for him that wasn’t the case, as fellow point guards Frank Mason and Devonte Graham emerged as the top two options at the position. With playing time looking to be scarce for Frankamp, Friday afternoon it was announced that he’s decided to transfer.

“I’ve been thinking about this for a while now,” Frankamp said in the release."I love KU and I love the Jayhawks. I feel like I’ve improved quite a bit since I’ve been here. I love my teammates but I just don’t feel like it’s the right fit for me. We have many good guards and so many big-time players. I want to be at a place where I could play a bigger role.”

According to the release head coach Bill Self spoke with Frankamp and his father about his role within this season’s team, with Frankamp coming to this final decision shortly thereafter. Frankamp scored in double figures in two games last season, and both outings came in the NCAA tournament. Two days prior to his season-high 12 points against Stanford, Frankamp scored ten points in the Jayhawks’ win over Eastern Kentucky.

Frankamp, a native of Wichita, Kansas, was ranked the seventh-best point guard in the Class of 2013 by Rivals.com.
