Three months after verbally committing to Washington, 6-foot-7 four-star guard Jermaine Haley has reopened his recruitment according to Marshall Cherrington of Scout.com. As for the reason behind Haley’s change of heart, DRIVE Basketball coach Pasha Bains said the following in a story written by Evan Daniels of Scout.com:

“Jermaine has to focus on his academics the next two years,” Bains told Scout.com. “He needs to consider all his options and be open to recruitment from all schools.”

According to Bains, Haley will finish this year at Burnaby South in British Columbia and then attend a prep school next year.

Haley played the point for the DRIVE Basketball program this summer, showing off the ability to make plays off the dribble while also having a good enough perimeter shot to keep defenders from giving him too much room (thus taking away driving angles). Haley was Washington’s lone commitment in the Class of 2016, but it should be noted that of the Huskies’ six verbal commitment in the Class of 2015 three are perimeter players.

Guards David Crisp and Dejounte Murray and small forward Matisse Thybulle are those players, with power forwards Devenir Duruisseau and Marquese Criss and junior college center Malik Dime completing the class at this time.
