Maryland has landed a commitment from Jaylen Brantley, a JuCo transfer from Boston that will spend this season at Odessa College in Texas.
The news was first reported by the Boston Herald.
Brantley is head coach Mark Turgeon’s first commitment in the Class of 2015. He was a three-star recruit coming out of high school, originally committing to Marshall. But the NCAA ruled Brantley a non-qualifier, meaning that he had to sit out the 2013-2014 season. He transferred to Odessa this past April.
Brantley is a 5-foot-9 point guard with deep range on his jumper. He was on an official visit to the campus this weekend, along with Maryland’s top target, five-star center Diamond Stone. Brantley will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
