Wisconsin lands commitment from three-star forward

Bo Ryan landed his third commitment in the Class of 2015 on Tuesday night as the Badgers went into Maryland and pulled out 6-foot-7 forward Charlie Thomas, NBCSports.com confirmed.

The news was first reported by Marcus Helton.

Thomas picked the Badgers over DePaul and Rutgers, and while that doesn’t exactly sound like Wisconsin has landed the kind of recruit that will allow them to compete for Big Ten titles, Thomas actually fits the Wisconsin system well. He’s a strong kid with broad shoulders that isn’t afraid to mix it up on the glass, but he’s also skilled enough to step out on the perimeter and knock down a three.

Bo Ryan loves big men like that.

Thomas is also young for his grade, meaning that it would not surprise me if he wound up redshirting the 2015-2016 season and spending five years in Madison.

This pickup may not move the needle all that much, but it could end up paying off in a big way down the road.

Thomas joins Brevin Pritzl and Alex Illikainen in the class.
