Murray State has yet to play a game this season and head coach Steve Prohm is already having to deal with a player departure. According to Jeff Bidwell of WPSD Local 6 News, Prohm announced Wednesday that freshman guard JayQuan McCloud has decided to transfer. Prohm cited homesickness as the reason for McCloud’s decision, and the North Chicago (Illinois) Community HS product will finish the fall semester before transferring.
Murray State returns four starters from last season’s CollegeInsider.com tournament champions, including sophomore guard Cameron Payne and senior forward Jarvis Williams. The Racers won’t lack for options as they look to reach the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2012, but McCloud was expected to help them from a depth standpoint.
Murray State has just one senior amongst its backcourt options, with that player being T.J. Sapp (13.3 ppg in 2013-14).
