Following an official visit this past weekend to Lubbock, Jordan Jackson verbally committed to Texas Tech, giving Tubby Smith his first pledge in his current recruiting class.

The commitment was announced on Sunday afternoon by the Texas Boys Basketball Twitter account.

Jackson, a 6-foot-1 shooting guard from St. Pius X High in Houston, is a three-star recruit, according to Rivals. He is also the son of Sheryl Swoopes, the future Hall of Famer, who’s decorated playing career includes four WNBA titles, three MVP awards and three Olympic Gold Medals. Swoopes, who is currently the Loyola (IL) women’s basketball head coach, also attended Texas Tech. In 1993, she led the Lady Red Raiders to a national championship while also earning national player of the year honors.

Tech had offered Jackson in early August, after he had completed playing on the grassroots circuit with T.J. Ford’s AAU team.

“I was ecstatic,” Jackson told Blue Zertuche of TexasHoops.com when he received the scholarship offer. “I immediately felt how this was an opportunity to continue the legacy of my mom, but on the men’s side.

“I have learned so much from her and I have her full support. She gets on the court with me and plays one-on-one and makes me better. She teaches me about situations and prepares me for whatever might happen in a game.”

According to Rivals, the future Red Raider had offers from Houston, Louisiana Tech, and Tulsa among others.
