Having already lost senior Leslee Smith for the entire season after he suffered a knee injury during the summer, the Nebraska basketball program announced that it has taken another hit to its front court.

6-foot-5 freshman small forward B.J. Day suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during practice this week, and the injury will sideline the Lincoln native for the entire 2014-15 season. Day will apply for a medical redshirt, which would preserve the year of eligibility.

“It is difficult because B.J. has worked hard in the offseason to get ready for the start of practice,” Nebraska head coach Tim Miles said in the release. “We look forward to him beginning his rehab, and our goal is to have him ready for the start of next season.”

Day’s at a position where the Huskers have multiple options, with All-Big Ten selection Terran Petteway and senior David Rivers among Miles’ options at the three. The power forward and center positions are where Nebraska is in a situation where it doesn’t have much wiggle room when it comes to health issues, due to the season-ending injury suffered by Smith.

Walter Pitchford returns for his junior season, and Nebraska also adds graduate transfer Moses Abraham and freshman Jacob Hammond.
