Friday, Sept. 26, 2014 is #AveryStrong day in the state of Nebraska.
It’s for Avery Harriman, son of Nebraska assistant coach Chris Harriman. Avery is 7-years-old and is currently battling leukemia for the third time. You may remember this video from last month, which gained some much popularity online that Avery appeared on The Today Show.
In Lincoln today, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., head coach Tim Miles and others from the Nebraska athletic department will be Scooter’s Coffee to help raise money for #AveryStrong Causes, Make-A-Wish Nebraska and Camp CoHoLo (Courage, Hope and Love). The coffee shop has agreed to donate $1 for every purchase, according to Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com. Parrish said an estimated $10,000 is expected to be raised.
I’ve already linked to Parrish’s story, but here is what he wrote back on Aug. 28. There you will learn about Avery’s fight and meet a man named Andrew Cussen, a stranger turned close friend to the Harriman’s, who donated bone marrow in February 2013 and again this past Thursday.
