Oklahoma will enter the 2014-15 season with a surplus of options on the perimeter, led by All-Big 12 candidate Buddy Hield. The good news for head coach Lon Kruger when it comes to his expected perimeter rotation: not one of those players is currently a senior. However that doesn’t mean the Sooners can’t add pieces for the future, and Wednesday night they did just that.
6-foot-6 three-star shooting guard Rashard Odomes announced via Twitter his decision to commit to Oklahoma, a little less than two weeks after his official visit to the school.
Odomes, the second commitment in the Class of 2015 for Oklahoma, attends Copperas Cove HS in Copperas Cove, Texas and played his grassroots basketball for the Texas D1 Ambassadors program. Among the other colleges to offer Odomes a scholarship were Baylor, Oklahoma State and Creighton. Odomes joins junior college center Akolda Manyang in Oklahoma’s 2015 recruiting class..
Last season Odomes averaged 24.3 points per game and helped lead Copperas Cove to its first playoff appearance in five years, earning offensive player of the year honors in his district. That level of play carried over into the summer, with Odomes receiving more attention in July as a result.
With shooting guards Hield, Isaiah Cousins and Frank Booker all having eligibility remaining beyond the 2014-15 season, Odomes will join a group of talented and experienced players in 2015.
