Kentucky’s Big Blue Madness is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 17. Tickets are given out on Sept. 20. Fans camping out since Wednesday, well actually it’s more like Monday. Either way you slice it, it’s been a record number of fans to camp out for tickets to the team’s annual Midnight Madness celebrations with 760 tents set up. In 2013, a mere 755 were pitched, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.
On Friday, Kentucky head coach John Calipari addressed the passionate crowd, a day after giving out a mattress and pillows to a couple of lucky fans. Big Blue Nation will be receiving tickets to the event on Saturday.
“The good news is when this thing (Big Blue Madness) happens most of what we’re gonna be doing — and because of the two platoons — we’re gonna scrimmage,” Calipari told the crowd. “So what you’re going to see at Madness is gonna be that and some other fun things. So you should have a ball and it should be worth you staying out.”
If you’ve watched the Big Blue Bahamas Tour last month you understand what Calipari means by platoons, something college basketball could see a lot of this upcoming season.
