In less than a week Boston College has now reeled in three verbal commitments in the Class of 2015.

With guards Matt Milon and Jerome Robinson already on board, head coach Jim Christian received a verbal commitment from three-star shooting guard A.J. Turner Saturday afternoon. Turner, who is on campus for his official visit, made his decision public via his Twitter account.

The 6-foot-6 Turner is entering his second year at New Hampton Prep in New Hampshire, and the decision to not only leave his native Michigan but also reclassify to the Class of 2015 (he was originally a member of the 2014 class) has resulted in an improved player who received increased attention on the recruiting trail.

Turner made the move to New Hampton Prep after averaging more than 17 points per game as a junior at De La Salle HS in Warren, Michigan in 2012-13, and back in May he discussed the positives of the switch.

“Just one year out there has shown that the prep route really works,” Turner said. “I’ve improved already after this one year already. Going back next year and doing the same thing, working harder, I think it’s just going to work magic and get me a lot better.”

Along with his transfer to prep school, Turner also reclassified from the class of 2014 to the class of 2015. He hopes the extra year has him more ready to play college basketball wherever he ends up next fall.

This summer Turner played with The Family AAU program, posting averages of 9.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game on the Nike EYBL circuit. With Boston College due to lose a good chunk of their perimeter rotation at the end of the 2014-15 season (they have six seniors at the shooting guard and small forward positions, and there’s also the need to account for the possibility of Olivier Hanlan going pro), there will be room for the new additions to compete for playing time in 2015-16.
