Thursday afternoon the Oregon Ducks landed their second commitment in the Class of 2015, and it’s an important addition considering the program’s lack of depth in the front court. 6-foot-9 power forward Trevor Manuel announced his decision to attend Oregon via his social media accounts, with the decision coming days after his official visit to the school.

Manuel attends Everett HS in Lansing, Michigan, returning home after spending last year at Oak Hill Academy. Prior to the year at Oak Hill Academy, Manuel played two years at Sexton HS in Lansing, with former Michigan State guard Carlton Valentine serving as head coach. Sexton won a state title during Manuel’s freshman year.

Oregon enters the 2014-15 season with just five front court players, with the most recent addition being versatile freshman Dillon Brooks. But despite the fact that all five players will have eligibility remaining in 2015-16, head coach Dana Altman and his staff needed to add more options to the front court rotation. Enter Manuel, who discussed his possible role with Matt Prehm of Duck Territory.

Oregon coaches told Manuel last weekend he was their top choice at the power forward position in 2014, and they felt like he could make an impact right away as a pick-and-roll type forward who can also be the stretch-four.

“To be honest that was a huge drawing point for me,” Manuel said. “They have a big need there and to know I was their top guy, that’s a pride thing. I’m excited and I think I can help them right away.”

Manuel played with The Family AAU program this summer, averaging 8.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game in Nike EYBL play. He joins point guard Kendall Small in Oregon’s 2015 recruiting class to date.
