Wake Forest head coach Danny Manning got a late addition to his first Demon Deacons team. Freshman forward Cornelius Hudson officially joined the program on Tuesday, the school announced. He had been on campus for the start of fall classes

“This kid was here on his own dime until he was cleared,” Manning told the Dan Collins Winston-Salem Journal on Tuesday. “So he was willing to make that commitment to us as well.”

The 6-foot-6 small forward played last season at Mount Zion Academy in Durham after graduating from Mansfield Timberview High (Texas). His older brother is San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree.

“We are glad to have Cornelius in the fold for this season,” Manning in a statement. “He is a versatile, all-around player who is capable of playing any one of the perimeter spots on the floor. He has great length and athleticism and will be a valuable addition to our program. Cornelius has a tremendous family and has had some great coaching under Coach Gregory at Timberview and Coach Reed at Mount Zion.”

After leading Tulsa to the NCAA tournament, Manning was hired as the new Wake Forest coach in April. Hudson joins an incoming class that includes guard Rondale Watson, Scottie Wilbekin’s younger brother Mitchell, Campbell transfer Darius Leonard, who is eligible this season under the graduate transfer rule, and Greek forward Greek forward Kostas Mitoglou.

Wake Forest finished 17-16 (6-12 ACC) last season.
