Report: North Carolina-Central gives LeVelle Moton extension

North Carolina-Central has locked one of the most promising young coaches in college hoops to a long-term deal.

LeVelle Moton has signed an eight-year contract extension with the school, according to The Durham News, that is worth upwards of $2 million. The $250,000 annual salary is the most in school history. When he was hired in 2010, before NCCU became a Division I program, Moton made just $100,000. The program moved up a level in

Moton, who is only 40 years old, has won 82 games in four seasons at the helm of the Eagles, including 50 in the last two years. NCCU won the MEAC in 2014 and played in the NCAA tournament and also managed to pick up a win at N.C. State along the way.

Moton was courted by both Florida Atlantic and Marshall this offseason. He played for the Eagles in the early 90s and is still the school’s third-all time leading scorer.
