Trey Lyles to sit out Kentucky’s trip to the Bahamas

On Tuesday, Kentucky announced that incoming freshman Trey Lyles will be out indefinitely as he is “recovering from a medical procedure on his left leg”.

Lyles will not be participating with Kentucky during their six-game trip to the Bahamas in August, but he is expected to be ready for the start of practice in October.

Lyles isn’t the only Kentucky big man that won’t be playing on the islands; Willie Cauley-Stein is going to be missing the action as well as he recovers from the injury he suffered during the 2014 NCAA tournament.

“Both Willie and Trey could probably play if they really wanted to, but I’m not taking a chance on either kid,” head coach John Calipari tweeted. “I want them 100 percent for the start of our season and there’s no reason to push these guys before they are absolutely ready.”

This has not been the easiest offseason for Lyles. He missed a couple of high school all-star games this month as he’s been battling either meningitis or dehydration.
