New Missouri head coach Kim Anderson made a splash hire on Monday afternoon, as the school announced that Huntington Prep head coach Rob Fulford was hired to be an assistant coach.

Fulford founded the Huntington Prep basketball program in 2009 and has quickly built the program into one of the premier high school basketball programs in the country. A native of West Virginia and graduate of Marshall, Fulford was 139-18 in five seasons at Huntington Prep and the program produced a number of high-level Division I players, including Andrew Wiggins (Kansas), Gorgui Dieng (Louisville), Sim and Tanveer Bhullar (New Mexico State), Xavier Rathan-Mayes (Florida State), Dominic Woodson (Memphis) and Moses Kingsley (Arkansas) to name a few.

This past season, Fulford coached Josh Perkins (Gonzaga), JaQuan Lyle (Oregon) and Jalen Lindsey (Providence) as Huntington Prep finished the season nationally ranked for the fourth consecutive season.

“I couldn’t be more excited to welcome Rob to the Mizzou family,” Anderson said in the release. “Rob is obviously an outstanding coach and he won at an incredible level at Huntington Prep. He is well-respected by his peers and will be a great asset to our program.

“One of Rob’s biggest strengths is his ability to build relationships with his young men,” Anderson continued. “He gets the most out of his players because of those strong relationships and that’s exactly what we were looking for as we went about completing our staff.”

Fulford has noted ties to Canada and is well-connected to high school and AAU coaches throughout the United States and should be able to get some premier recruits interested in playing at Missouri.

“I want to thank Coach Anderson, Mike Alden and University administration for this incredible opportunity,” Fulford said in the release. “I wasn’t looking to leave Huntington Prep but after speaking with Coach Anderson and seeing his vision for the program, this opportunity was too good to pass up and I’m excited to be a Missouri Tiger.”

Although Anderson won a Division II national championship at Central Missouri, many questioned his ability to recruit high-level talent to Missouri. By retaining noted recruiter Tim Fuller and adding Fulford, Anderson has addressed that concern in his first offseason as Mizzou’s head coach.
