Jon Octeus, Colorado State’s third-leading scorer, is leaving the program for his final year of eligibility, the school announced on Monday night.

The 6-foot-4 rising senior guard averaged 13.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. He is on track to graduate this summer, giving him immediate eligibility for next season.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank everyone affiliated with Colorado State University for their support during my time in Fort Collins,” Octeus said through a statement. “I would like to give a special thanks to Coach Eustachy, the staff, my teammates, the CSU Athletics Department, and the Rams fans for providing me with the opportunity to experience some of the greatest moments of my life.

Octeus began his collegiate career at Wabash Valley College (Illinois) before enrolling at Colorado State in 2012.

“Jon has been a big part of the success we have had at Colorado State over the last two years,” Colorado State head coach Larry Eustachy added. “More than just a talented player, he is a leader and a person of character. We wish Jon the best moving forward. He gave CSU two outstanding seasons, but more importantly, he will leave our program with his degree. You can’t ask for much more out of a student-athlete.”

This is a tough blow for the Rams, however, they do return leading scorers J.J. Avila and Daniel Bejarano. The program also adds John Gillon to the back court. The 6-foot guard averaged 10.6 points, 2.4 boards and 2.4 assists per game for Arkansas-Little Rock during the 2012-2013 season. Last week, former Iowa State guard Bubu Palo transferred to Colorado State. Palo will seek a waiver to be able to play next season.

Colorado State was 16-16 (7-11 MWC), and ninth in conference standings after appearing in back-to-back NCAA tournaments.
