Maryland’s Trayvon Reed out 8-12 weeks with fractured ankle

Maryland’s difficult offseason continued on Tuesday as the program announced that incoming freshman Trayvon Reed will miss two-to-three months with a fractured right ankle.

The initial injury came before Reed reached campus, as he hurt it in April when he was still in high school. It was discovered during during a physical exam at Maryland. He was seen wearing a boot earlier this spring, and while he’ll miss time this summer, he won’t need surgery.

Losing Reed is a setback for a team that already has seen their two best big men from last season, Shaq Cleare and Charles Mitchell, transfer out of the program. They’ve since added Michal Cekovsky, a four-star center from the Canarias Basketball Academy, and Robert Carter, a transfer from Georgia Tech that has to sit out this season, but the Terps are still going to have some low post issues heading into the 2014-2015 season.
