APR score renders Houston Baptist ineligible from ’14-'15 postseason

Houston Baptist will not be allowed to participate in any postseason tournaments in 2014-2015 as a result of landing a 913 APR score, the school announced.

Appeals of the ban were denied.

“While our men’s basketball program has achieved a very laudable graduation rate, we did not do an adequate job of monitoring those who, for whatever reason, were no longer actively competing on our roster,” Director of Athletics Steve Moniaci said. “We respect the committee’s decision and have put measures in place in order to prevent this from happening again. We are proud of our men’s basketball student-athletes and how they are dealing with an unfortunate situation not of their making.”

The issue, according to the release that HBU sent out, was the academic standing of players that had exhausted their eligibility, citing their 82% graduation rate as a program.

This is the first year that the APR requirement for postseason eligibility increased from 900 to 930.

UW-Milwaukee, who played in the 2014 NCAA tournament, is also banned from the postseason.
