It’s been more than a month since Coppin State had a head coach, but that will change on Tuesday as the Golden Eagles will hire Stillman College’s Michael Grant, according to a report from the Baltimore Sun.

Grant spent the past six seasons at the Division II school in Tuscaloosa, AL, going 100-73 during that stretch. He wound up there after spending two seasons as the head coach at Southern University.

Grant will be replacing the legendary Rob “Fang” Mitchell, who turned Coppin State into a MEAC power in the 1990s. They had a winning record nine times in a ten-year stretch, a span that also included an upset of No. 2 seed South Carolina in the 1997 NCAA tournament. But Mitchell has not had much success in the last decade and Coppin State finished just 12-20 this past season.

Grant reportedly beat out Maryland assistant Bino Ranson and George Mason assistant Eric Skeeters for the job.
