After being a member of a coaching staff which led VCU to four NCAA tournament appearances, including a trip to the Final Four in 2011, assistant coach Mike Rhoades appears to be ready to take over his own Division I program.

According to a report from Jon Rothstein, Rice will hire Rhoades as its new head coach. Rhoades will be taking over for Ben Braun, who cut ties with the school on March 13.

This will not be Rhoades first college coaching job. For a decade, he was the head coach at Randolph-Macon College (Va.), the same Division III program where Wichita State head coach Gregg Marshall got his start. Rhoades compiled a 197-76 record in his 10 years with the Yellow Jackets.

Rhoades will be taking over a Rice program that stumbled to a 7-23 (2-14 Conference USA) record. The Owls finished last in conference, riding an eight-game losing streak to end the 2013-2014 season.
