No. 18 Kentucky survives LSU in overtime at Rupp [VIDEO]

lsu kentucky

Kentucky hasn’t necessarily worked well together at times this season, but to knock off LSU at home on Saturday, the Wildcats needed multiple players to step up in the game’s hectic final minutes in the overtime.

James Young’s free throws gave Kentucky a lead with 25 seconds remaining before Andre Stringer’s layup with 15 seconds left forced Kentucky to make a play trailing by one. The Wildcats opted not to call timeout and Julius Randle found a way to stick in a short bucket with 3.9 seconds remaining and James Young made a steal on the ensuing LSU possession when they were out of timeouts to seal the game.

The win for Kentucky is a nice bounceback after last week’s home loss to Florida and as Jimmy Dykes pointed out on the broadcast, the Wildcats are one of the few teams that can beat any team in the country on a given night.

The problem with Kentucky continues to be continuity in sharing and moving the ball. There’s still a lot of isolations and bad shots, although it has improved and Kentucky’s defense and pride has improved since the beginning of the year as well.

Aaron Harrison found his scoring touch for 21 and James Young hit for 20, but Kentucky only had five total assists against LSU.

For now, Kentucky should just be happy that they’re learning to win games and beat good teams in close situations. This team has the talent to beat anybody, they just need to learn to play together and learn how to win.

It remains to be seen if Kentucky can play together to beat elite teams but they’re certainly capable of doing so.
