It was known that Miami would struggle this season after their ACC championship and Sweet 16 run by losing their top six players. The Hurricane defense looked great in their opening game, but Miami’s offense struggled as they lost at home to St. Francis (NY) 66-62 in overtime.
The Hurricanes were 0-for-15 from the three-point line and shot 31 percent overall.
St. Francis hasn’t been over .500 since 2003-04 and won despite shooting only 37 percent from the field.
The good news is that Miami defended very well, and as long as the Hurricanes can defend and stay in games they’ll win a couple as their offense improves. If Miami’s new parts can mesh on offense they can be a tough out for any ACC team, but they’re likely going to be near the bottom of a very good league this year.
