Bo Ryan held a “Shooting Down Cancer” event over the weekend and ended up donating more than $66,000 to cancer research.
More than 2,000 students showed up, with each getting a chance to shoot a free throw and a half court shot. For each student that stepped into the Kohl Center, Ryan donated a dollar. Making the free throw as worth 10 bucks and hitting a half court shot was worth $1,000.
While the students hit just 504 free throws, hitting less than 25% of their attempts, they managed to knock down 59 half court shots.
“Yesterday we found out my dad is DONE with chemo and ready to start radiation!” Wisconsin student Lexi Mueller wrote on her Instagram. “Today we#ShotDownCancer and gave Bo his very own lime green lymphoma bracelet as he donated over $66,000 in cancer research!! So blessed to go to school at @uwmadison!!!”
