Report: Trae Golden receives waiver, eligible at Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech has their point guard.

Trae Golden, who spent the past three seasons at Tennessee, has received a waiver to play immediately at Georgia Tech, according to a report from Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com.

Golden averaged 12.1 points and 3.9 assists for the Vols last season, but he left the program abruptly in May, opting to transfer to Georgia Tech a few months later in part because he wanted to be closer to his family. Golden’s father is reportedly ill, and the NCAA grants hardship waiver to student-athletes in circumstances like this.

More importantly, Golden is the missing piece for the Yellow Jackets. Brian Gregory’s team has some talent returning — Robert Carter Jr., Marcus Georges-Hunt, Daniel Miller, Kammeon Holsey — but they are lacking a ball-handler, a presence at the point. Golden fills that role.

All of a sudden, Georgia Tech looks like a team capable of putting together a run to the NCAA tournament.
