John Thompson III Elected to NABC Board of Directors

John Thompson III

It was announced earlier today that Georgetown men’s basketball coach John Thompson III has been elected to the National Association Basketball Coaches (NABC) Board of Directors.

Thompson fills the position vacated by former Butler head coach Brad Stevens when he accepted the job to coach the Boston Celtics.

For those who are unclear of the NABC’s purpose, it is to “further the best interests of the game of basketball as well as the players and coaches who participate in the sport.” Perhaps the most notable endeavor of the NABC is Coaches vs. Cancer, which has raised more than $70 million since its inception in 1994 for cancer research, patient services and prevention education.

Currently, Thompson is the only head coach from the Big East to serve of the NABC’s Board of Directors.
