Coach K to receive Wooden Leadership in Coaching Award

More honors are being bestowed upon the coaching greats on Tobacco Road.

On Tuesday, Duke University announced that its Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski will receive the Nell and John Wooden Leadership in Coaching Award during “An Evening with the Legends of the Game” on Sept. 24 in Washington, D.C.

Coach K’s enters his 34th season in Durham with 957 career wins, the most in NCAA Division I men’s basketball history. He also has four national championships, and a pair of Olympic gold medals as the head coach of USA Basketball.

“Coach K represents exactly what the Nell and John Wooden Leadership in Coaching Award is all about, whether coaching the Blue Devils or Team USA, he is a passionate and inspires his teams to win,” executive director Bob Geoghan said a statement released by Duke.

This past Thursday, the legendary North Carolina coach Dean Smith got word that he would receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama.

The award will be presented by Wooden’s daughter Nan.
