Loyola of Maryland is on the board again in the 2014 class as they landed a commitment from guard Colton Bishop out of Winston-Salem, North Carolina late this week, according to a report from Mason Linker of the Winston-Salem Journal.

A 6'1" guard, Bishop’s commitment helps Loyola continue to stock their backcourt after the earlier commitment of point guard Jevon Patton out of Charlotte.

Bishop spoke with Linker about playing with Patton and how he’ll likely play shooting guard alongside of him.

“I took the trip I think late June,” Bishop said to Linker. “I really liked it up there. All the coaches and everybody were really nice people. It’s a good fit. They don’t have too many guards in their lineup, and they recruited me more as a shooting guard and maybe (to) slide over and play some point. They just signed Jevon Patton from (Charlotte) Olympic to be the point guard.”

Bishop averaged 18 points, seven assists, five rebounds and two steals per game while also shooting 44 percent from the three-point line for Forsyth Country Day. Colton is originally from Georgia, so he grew up a Georgia Bulldogs fan and is excited to play for former Bulldog and Loyola head coach G.G. Smith.

“He’s a good coach, and I’ll get to play with somebody I grew up watching,” Bishop said. “There were definitely a lot of schools recruiting me, some a little bit bigger mid-majors, and Virginia got in. But Loyola is a really good fit for me. I didn’t want to wait any longer and have someone take that spot from me. I wanted to call it early.”

Loyola is coming off of a 23-12 finish (12-6 in the Patriot League) and a quarterfinal appearance in the CIT last season and returns leading scorer Dylon Cormier.
