Following an NCAA Tournament bid, Colorado State has opted to give head coach Larry Eustachy a contract extension through the 2017-18 season, according to the Denver Post.
In Eustachy’s first season with the Rams, he led the program to a school-record 26 wins and a second round victory over Missouri before falling in the Round of 32 to Louisville.
The extension not only firmly puts Eustachy in-place for Colorado State’s long-term plans, but it also features some nice financial incentives if Eustachy reaches certain milestones. Eustachy is also thrilled with the extension and has publicly said in the past that he wishes to end his career as a Ram.
“I’m incredibly pleased to be able to finalize this new contract, and humbled by the faith shown in me by Jack Graham and Dr. Frank,” said Eustachy in a team release. “When I was hired, I said that I wanted Colorado State to be my last stop, and that is something that I meant wholeheartedly. To now have a contract in place that makes that a reality is something truly special.”
Eustachy will have a base salary of $910,000 for the upcoming season, with a two-percent increase set for each subsequent year.
The agreement has bonuses for team performance, including $40,000 for winning 20 games in a season, $100,000 for capturing the Mountain West Conference championship, and $200,000 if the Rams earn a bid to the NCAA tournament.
The new deal certainly seems to be fair for both parties and if Eustachy is truly intent on staying at Colorado State, he has a proven track record of taking programs to the NCAA Tournament and having sustained success.
