Matt Derenbecker has decided to leave Dayton to transfer to a school closer to his Louisiana home. He began his college career at LSU.

“I greatly appreciated my time in Dayton with coach Miller and the basketball staff,” Derenbecker said in a release provided by the school. “They are genuinely interested in what is best for each player in their program.”

“I respect Matt’s decision, and wish him the best of luck in the future,” Flyer head coach Archie Miller said. “We will continue to support Matt and help him with his transfer.”

Derenbecker averaged 4.5 points last season at Dayton. He played his freshman year at LSU in 2010-2011 and averaged 6.5 points. A 6-foot-7 lefty, Derenbecker is known for two things: his ability to shoot from beyond the arc, and sending Rotnei Clarke headfirst into a basket support.
